Glasgow City fall to narrow Sparta Prague loss in first leg

Highlights: Sparta Prague 2-1 Glasgow City

Glasgow City lost 2-1 to Sparta Prague in the first leg of their Women's Champions League last-32 tie.

Sharon Wojick grabbed what could be an important away goal early in the second half, firing a shot into the top corner after good work from Aoife Colvill.

Goals from Lucie Martinkova and Anna Dlaskova had given the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead, and City had to deal with some late pressure.

The second leg will be played at Broadwood on 16 December.

"The pitch was very wet and soggy and it became a bit of a battle," said City head coach Scott Booth. "Lots of long balls getting flung into the box and we didn't deal particularly well with it.

"At half-time, the message was to keep a clean sheet for the second half and to score and the players delivered that.

"That said, over the 90 minutes we did not play anywhere near as well as we can and we caused a lot of our own problems. We need to be stronger defensively at home and get closer to them in midfield areas.

"I expect us to attack more and the play the game our way in the second leg."

Booth's side reached the last eight of the competition last season but had to work hard in this campaign's preliminary rounds, coming through single-tie meetings with Peamount and Valur on penalties.

City have made the perfect start to their league defence with six wins from six and host Rangers on Sunday before the Czechs visit Cumbernauld next week.
