Josh Sheehan's penalty in time added on rescued a point for League Two leaders Newport County at Salford City.
Salford took the lead from a corner that Tom Clarke headed home.
The home side were awarded a penalty for handball but Ian Henderson's spot-kick was saved by Exiles keeper Nick Townsend, who also later denied Brandon Thomas-Asante and then Clarke.
But with time running out Di'Shon Bernard brought down veteran Newport forward Kevin Ellison in the area.
Newport manager Michael Flynn told BBC Sport Wales:
"We grew into the game, we got better and better, we were by far the better team in the second half and we had more chances than them - although they worked the goalkeeper more than us, which we need to start doing more and hitting the back of the net.
"The players have got a fantastic mentality, something that we try to instil in them as well. A lot of players we bring here have already got that.
"They were immense. They kept going and going, it didn't look like it would be our night but I can't fault them - it's a good point away from home against a team that will be there or there abouts."
