Rotherham 0-2 Brentford: Bees climb into top six with third straight win

Finland international Marcus Forss has scored seven goals for Brentford this season

Brentford climbed into the Championship play-off places with a routine win at 10-man Rotherham.

Marcus Forss gave the Bees the lead with a composed finish after Ivan Toney pulled the ball back to him from Tariqe Fosu's deep cross.

Top scorer Toney wrapped up the points from the penalty spot after Mikel Miller had been sent off for bringing down Sergi Canos when he was through on goal.

Rotherham were competitive throughout but rarely troubled the Bees defence as Thomas Frank's men registered a third straight victory.

The three points saw them move up to fourth in the table and they are now just one point behind second-placed Bournemouth.

Their front three combined well to open the scoring after the break, as Finland international Forss fired home a powerful shot after Toney had unselfishly teed him up.

Toney would get his 13th of the season before the end of the night though as he sent Millers goalkeeper Jamal Blackman the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Brentford, beaten play-off finalists last season, host Blackburn on Saturday while Rotherham face a trip to St Andrew's to face Coventry.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I thought we were excellent first half but we just didn't create enough clear chances to take the lead.

"They were the better team in the second half and it was a bit of class for their first goal. Unfortunately we couldn't match that.

"We got done with a sucker punch and it was game over at 2-0 but that doesn't detract of how proud I am of the performance.

"The games come so thick and fast you don't have time to enjoy a win or a draw or sulk about a defeat. We just have to pick the lads up tomorrow and go again."

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank told BBC Radio London:

"We knew it would be very difficult and I can't praise my team enough for that attitude.

"We are confident, but we are humble because we know the task ahead of us is massive.

"The foundation is there so we just need to build.

"We are getting to a level we are pleased with, but there is still more to come. But we are in a good place."
