Charlton Athletic 2-2 Hull City: Keane Lewis-Potter grabs Tigers dramatic draw

Hull celebrate late equaliser
Hull's players start the celebrations after scoring a late equaliser at The Valley

Hull scored a dramatic 96th-minute equaliser to earn a point at Charlton, who have now gone 10 games without a win in the Championship.

Dillon Phillips failed to hold substitute Keane Lewis-Potter's header after the hosts failed to clear a free-kick, with the ball squirming against the post and in off the Addicks keeper.

Charlton, who had lost their previous four games, had looked set to secure a first win since mid-October after Darren Pratley headed home and Naby Sarr slotted in from close range to twice give them the lead.

Jarrod Bowen tapped in the Tigers' first equaliser just after half-time and Grant McCann's side struck with almost the last touch to level.

The draw lifts Hull, who had lost their previous two away games, a place to 13th in the table, while Charlton remain 17th after collecting only their third point of their winless run.

But this will feel like two points dropped for the Addicks, who have struggled with injuries in recent weeks and were only able to name six substitutes.

There was little sign of the drama to come as both sides struggled for inspiration during a sluggish opening 30 minutes before the home side went in front with the game's first effort on target.

Pratley was allowed to run unmarked into the six-yard box and rose above Eric Lichaj to meet Conor Gallagher's corner.

Hull hit back to level straight after half-time when Bowen arrived in the six-yard box to convert Kamil Grosicki's teasing left-wing cross for his 15th league goal of the season.

But Charlton's response was immediate as Sarr started and ended a flowing move to restore the lead when he tapped in Jonathan Leko's cross.

Phillips produced smart saves to keep out Bowen's volley on the turn and Jordy de Wijs' header as Hull sought an equaliser.

And, with only seconds left, it finally arrived when Charlton could only partially clear a long free-kick into the box and Lewis-Potter rose above Ben Purrington to meet another Grosicki cross and head goalwards.

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer told BBC Radio London:

"My head is not in a good place at the moment. What do you say? Where do you start?

"I get that we have to defend right until the final whistle, but the players have got to learn.

"Tuesday night we concede in the final 30 seconds, tonight it was beyond time and that's what is doing my head in more than most.

"The referee lets them put two more balls into the box after time and that's wrong. My players are going away with one point instead of three.

"I just feel for every single player and person involved with the club as we didn't deserve that. The players gave me everything and the place was bouncing."

Hull City manager Grant McCann told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We're relieved to get a point as we were 2-1 down in the 95th minute and we were coming away with zero points.

"We were poor in the first half and nowhere near the standards that we set. We just kept giving the ball away.

"We started the second half bright and scored a good goal through Jarrod Bowen but to concede so quickly afterwards was disappointing. But I was pleased with the response in the second half."
