The thing is, as a lifelong Canary supporter, I always knew, in my heart, that Ipswich were better than us. More trophies, so many years at the top level, Europe year after year, unbeatable at home in Europe. Undeniable fact. OTBC though, even if we are, as a lifelong Canary, a bunch of failed budgies. Should never have sacked Paul Lambert. He's a blue.
A solid win at the end for Saints but the jitters are still there. No midfield general to control and direct play. The defence is still a major worry, too easily stretched and pulled all over the place and with three subs to 'choke' Norwich did NOT work. I have a soft spot for Norwich and other provincial sides but it is hard in this league to consistently punch above your weight. Big test away.
@54 - And the really stupid part about it is the land it's built on was a gas works, and had a railway siding for dropping off coke to burn. I used to work in an office that was bulldozed to allow the new ground to be built....
Why for the love of God is Hazelnutt still here ???
A goalscorer makes such a difference in a relegation battle. Both Saints and Norwich have one but last night Saints had a bit more elsewhere on the pitch.Saints look good to stay up and Norwich are certainly capable of doing so. A good January transfer window could be the deciding factor for 6 or 7 clubs looking to avoid the drop.
its no use dropping ticket prices, people can't get to the ground because of poor transport links and insufficient parking.St Mary's is the only ground where you enter the city by train and pass within 50m of the ground but are dropped 2 miles away to make your way back through the traffic gridlock. Farcical
@52While I won't argue against dropping ticket prices, it's worth noting that this game was (a) early for a midweek match and (b) on a day when South West Trains were partially strike-bound meaning that trains home were decidedly uncertain. Also (c) it was cold and in December when there are notoriously other calls on supporters' time.
Dear Southampton fc please please drop your ticket prices and fill the empty seats we could fill a stadium twice the size every game if was a tenner to get in
well played both teams but the better team came out on top but Southampton and Norwich will still be in the premier league next season
Norwich are doomed - for most of the season they've had an air about them of relegation inevitability, going back to last season they achieved promotion from the Championship by being attacking, bold and outscoring the opposition. Even last season their defence was leaky but it didn't matter given their scoring rate. You can't play the same way in a better league & hope to pull off the same trick
Was a good game until midway through the 2nd half, because we have had a habit of having goals scored against us and losing points but Norwich weren't too trigger happy this time, apart from Pukki, I expected he'd get one over our shakey defenceGreat to get 7 points in the last 3 games which could've been 9 had we won at ArsenalLet's hope that Saints away form continues at Newcastle next week
47. Posted by Dave on 47 minutes agoI took advantage of the Amazon prime football last night and watched a bit of the match. Why so many empty seats? Maybe Dave they were all watching on Amazon aswell. I guess it being a wednesday night close to xmas and no disrespect to Norwich, not a crowd puller. However the trffic was horrendus getting to the game.

If we want to avoid relegation these are the games we need to win. Defence still looks shaky. At least all the players seem to be working their socks of, so still playing for the manager. I really wanted Che Adams to do well but he looked totally lost when he came on. You would have thought he had never played as a striker.
great win for saintscant fathom out why redmond is still being picked though
Very poor first half from us. No spark in midfield, we never looked as if we believed in ourselves. Much better second half, but still far too reluctant to pull the trigger when near the goal. Fans would rather see players try and score but miss than see them pass the buck to someone else. Only saving grace is that after 10 games with no proper defence we're only 5 points adrift. #OTBC
BIG 3 points , on the South coast . Liverpool now have the old Saints team Van Dyke , Mane , Lovren . Lallana etc etc etc . Sold the jewels and replaced with Crystals WELL DONE S F C
Canaries have injuries to contend with, but should take out insurance policy and get Big Sam in to ensure they stay up.
Nice win Southampton but please don't get to carried away you have played 2 teams in the bottom 3 at home can you continue the form I wonder?.
