Annan Athletic 5-2 Brechin City: Seven goals, two red cards, a penalty and maybe an own goal

Annan Athletic tweet

Seven goals, two red cards and a penalty, Annan Athletic's move into the Scottish League Two play-off positions left the fans breathless at Galabank.

And Brechin City's 5-2 defeat leaves the side managed by former Celtic full-back Mark Wilson still struggling three points adrift at the bottom.

Ross Crawford headed the first of his two goals to put the visitors ahead.

But Annan were one in front after five goals in 26 minutes and a red card for Chris McLaughlin ensured an easy win.

Nathan Flanagan had cancelled out Crawford's second-minute opener and Scott McLean scored twice, his second coming from the penalty spot following a foul on Kyle Wilkie after Crawford had equalised.

With left-back McLaughlin sent off for dissent after only 32 minutes, on-loan St Mirren defender Jamie Walker extended the lead shortly after the break amid suggestions it was a Scott Reekie own goal - and Lewis McLear added a fifth with 15 minutes remaining.

Home hopes of adding to the scoreline were dented when defender Matty Douglas was dismissed after 84 minutes.

Brechin, relegated from League One last season, have now lost four consecutive games, have not won in their last six outings and have won once in nine games since Wilson replaced Barry Smith.

Annan, who also beat Brechin 2-0 in a Scottish Cup replay in October after a 2-2 home draw, are unbeaten at home in six games and leapfrog Queen's Park and Elgin City into fourth place, four points behind Cowdenbeath.
