Alloa Athletic 1-4 Ayr United: Ian McCall's side keep pace at top

Ayr United swept aside Alloa Athletic to earn their fifth win in six Scottish Championship games and keep pace with Dundee United at the summit.

Ian McCall's side were three up at 20 minutes at the Indodrill, thanks to a penalty by Alan Forrest and efforts from Sam Roscoe and Luke McGowan.

Ayr's passing and moving was excellent and a fourth followed on the half hour, Forrest heading in a cross.

Alloa were better after the break, and pulled one back through Kevin O'Hara.

Alloa Athletic manager Peter Grant: "First half, we were well off the pace. The one thing you demand from your team is that you compete and we were a million miles off.

"The second half, I was much more pleased with. Great credit to Ayr, they deserved their victory."

Ayr United manager Ian McCall: "I said to them at half time that in 20 years of management that's as good as any as one of my teams has ever played. And I include my good Falkirk teams and my very good Dundee United in my first season with internationals in the team.

"The level of football we played and the type of football we played was fantastic."
