Queen of the South retained their Scottish Championship status following a goalless draw at home to Raith Rovers in the play-off final.

Having won the first leg 3-1 in Kirkcaldy, the hosts created the best of the chances, with Stephen Dobbie hitting a post in the first half.

Visiting goalkeeper Dean Lyness made good saves to thwart Dobbie, Barry Maguire and Connor Murray.

Rovers never looked like getting the two goals they needed.

Chris Duggan went closest for John McGlynn's side in the 14th minute, only to be denied by goalkeeper Alan Martin, while a Nathan Flanagan shot slid wide.

The Fife team, who finished third in League One, spent most of the game on the back foot as veteran striker Dobbie looked to add to his tally of 43 goals for the season.

Dobbie cracked the base of a post from distance and his drilled effort was well kept out by Lyness before the interval.

The Rovers keeper was much the busier in the second half but the Dumfries outfit could not sign off on a disappointing season with a goal in front of their own fans, despite Dobbie peppering the target in the closing stages.

Queen of the South manager Allan Johnston: "We should probably have won the game quite comfortably but staying up was the main aim.

"It's certainly not a celebration, being in this play-off in the first place but the boys showed a lot of character to get through.

"There's a lot of them moving on, maybe signed with different clubs already, but they proved how much they loved being here with a really good effort."

Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn: "Over the two games, we've put up a really good show. I thought we started well but we just didn't produce enough quality in the second half.

"I can't be any prouder of the players. The effort they put in, it was a magnificent shift."
