Sutton United 1-2 Leyton Orient

Two yellows? A professional foul? A bad tackle? A headbutt?

There are a few ways of getting yourself sent off, but Leyton Orient midfielder James Dayton may have found a new one after he was shown a red card for throwing his boot towards the referee - while being carried off on a stretcher with a suspected broken ankle.

Dayton's bad day saw him left out of the starting XI, then suffer a serious-looking injury with referee Daniel Middleton allowing play to go on.

While being treated, Dayton took out his frustration by hurling his boot at the ground - and was shown a straight red card for dissent while being carried off.

Despite the setback, Orient came from behind to win with a last-minute penalty and go back to the top of the National League.

Manager Justin Edinburgh said: "It was a game of incredible incidents.

"I need to see the incident again. We knew straight away that he [Dayton] had a serious injury.

"I'm not criticising the ref for not blowing up, he allowed us to play on but he's got to understand. The boy has got a serious injury and he's thrown his boot on the floor in frustration.

"I can't see why he's got to be dismissed. It was bizarre."

Orient, who started the game a point behind Salford, trailed to Jonah Ayunga's individual opener in the 52nd minute.

They equalised in the 64th minute when Daniel Happe headed in from Josh Koroma's free-kick.

Orient were reduced to 10 men with 16 minutes left but were not to be denied and after a foul by substitute goalkeeper Ross Worner, Macauley Bonne slotted in from the spot in the 89th minute.
