Aaron Doran scored for the fourth successive match as Inverness Caley Thistle survived a late scare to climb into third spot in the Championship.
The Irishman opened the scoring on 29 minutes, heading in his 11th goal of the season from a Sean Welsh cross.
Welsh made it 2-0 from the penalty spot before half time and Jordan White added a composed finish.
Bottom of the table Alloa rallied with an Alan Trouten penalty and a deflected strike from Iain Flannigan.
However, the Wasps remain three points behind Partick Thistle in the battle to avoid automatic relegation, while the Highlanders are 10 points adrift of Dundee United in second place.
Ayr United drop into fourth place but have two games in hand over Caley Thistle, who travel to Somerset Park on 6 April.
