Arsenal Women seal Champions League spot with Birmingham win

Katie McCabe scored a late goal for Arsenal against Birmingham City to keep the Gunners one point clear at the top of the Women's Super League.

McCabe opened the scoring for the away side after 79 minutes with a well-struck finish into the bottom corner.

Blues keeper Hannah Hampton had earlier denied Vivianne Miedema, pushing her first-half header onto the crossbar.

Chloe Arthur had had the hosts' best chance, heading just wide in the 70th minute with the score at 0-0.

League leaders Arsenal had the better of the chances and thought they had netted earlier when City's Aoife Mannion cleared the ball off the line and against her own bar after Dominique Bloodworth tried to bundle in an opener.

But after constant pressure on the Birmingham goal, the Gunners, who are chasing a first league title in seven years, got their goal which meant they secured Champions League football for next season.

Arsenal stay top, one point clear of second-placed Manchester City - who defeated Liverpool 2-1 - while Birmingham remain fourth.
