Rotherham United 2-2 Sheffield Wednesday: Millers stay in drop zone after late heartbreak

Sheffield Wednesday's Dominic Iorfa (right) celebrates his stoppage-time equaliser at Rotherham

Sheffield Wednesday defender Dominic Iorfa scored a dramatic equaliser in the 10th minute of time added on to earn the Owls a point at Rotherham.

In a chaotic finale, the former Wolves man equalised with the final kick of the match before Owls forward Fernando Forestieri was sent off for going into the crowd during the celebrations.

The result will be incredibly tough to take for the struggling Millers, who fought back from going behind to Forestieri's first goal since October.

Jon Taylor equalised before Richie Towell's strike after the break looked to have set the hosts on their way to a rare win but they were unable to see out the time added on after Owls defender Jordan Thorniley suffered a head injury and it was ultimately his replacement who levelled.

The result means Paul Warne's side remain in the Championship relegation zone, while Wednesday go up to 15th.

Rotherham, who are without a win since 1 January, will be left ruing missed chances by striker Michael Smith and midfielder Will Vaulks after going in front.

Iorfa's late intervention, on his debut, keeps Steve Bruce's unbeaten start as Owls boss intact, although he has won just one of his first four games in charge.

The Millers visit relegation rivals Reading next Saturday, with Wednesday hosting Swansea on the same day.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne:

"I just don't get it. I had a digital watch on, I asked him how long, he said 'eight minutes'.

"I don't know where the extra time has come from. If there is extra time on the eight, then I don't know where from. There was no injury, no goal, no substitution.

"I'm disappointed with the way it ended but it doesn't detract how proud I am of the performance.

"I thought we were excellent. The only criticism I have got is that we didn't take the chances we had."

Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce:

"There was a legitimate reason we were playing 10 minutes. Jordan (Thorniley) was down and when there are head injuries like that, the referee is entitled to add time on.

"It was one of those strange ones: he went down in the 87th minute, there was still three minutes to play and then he added on the eight minutes. He was quite legit in what he's done.

"I'm not too sure what he's done afterwards with Forestieri. To pick on Forestieri because he is alone with the supporters, he could have sent off my whole team. The 17 of them were in the away end.

"That's what football fans want to see, that it means something to the players. Now we are faced with not having him next week, for what? Totally ridiculous."
