Bristol City Women 0-0 Brighton & Hove Albion Women: Seagulls inch nearer safety

Brighton moved six points clear of the Women's Super League relegation place with a goalless draw at Bristol City.

Albion created the better chances throughout as Ini Umotong struck the bar and Victoria Williams' header was cleared off the line by Julie Biesmans.

Both goalkeepers made fine late saves to preserve the stalemate in an end-to-end finale.

Brighton's Sophie Harris foiled Carla Humphrey before City's Sophie Baggaley thwarted Megan Connolly in injury time.

The point keeps Hope Powell's Brighton ninth but stretches their advantage over bottom side Yeovil Town to six points - although the Somerset side do have two games in hand.

Bristol City, meanwhile, remain fifth, six points behind fourth-placed Birmingham City after the Robins' three-game winning streak came to an end.

Bristol City manager Tanya Oxtoby: "I said to the girls after the game that it's a credit to their character and the fact that they don't fold under pressure.

"If I was Brighton, I would probably be a little bit disappointed.

"There is a little bit of mental fatigue within the group at the minute, so to really concentrate and grind the result out the way they did, especially in the last five minutes, is exceptional."

Brighton manager Hope Powell: "I'm disappointed we didn't win but I'm really pleased we didn't lose. I have to applaud the girls - we really went for it, committed bodies forward and were on the front foot.

"Credit must go to Bristol. I thought they were very resilient. It was a good game; end to end, with good entertainment value for the neutral.

"It gives us a little bit of a life in that league and it's a big point. One point for us is massive."
