Hull City 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday: Jarrod Bowen double clinches sixth straight win

Jarrod Bowen scored a goal in each half in Hull City's win over Sheffield Wednesday

The Championship's form team Hull City earned their sixth win in a row with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

Two goals from Jarrod Bowen and one from substitute Fraizer Campbell saw Hull move into the top half of the table.

Bowen broke the deadlock in first-half injury time when he curled past Keiren Westwood and he struck his second in the 51st minute from the penalty spot after Owls goalkeeper Westwood had brought down Chris Martin.

Campbell wrapped the game up just six minutes after coming onto the pitch, as he raced through on goal and finished well to continue the Tigers' unbeaten run.

Hull started the game strongly with Kamil Grosicki twice being denied by Westwood, either side of Jordy de Wijs heading a corner wide.

They also had a penalty claim turned down in the 18th minute after Martin was challenged by Michael Hector as the striker tried to reach Evandro's cross.

Wednesday's first chance arrived in the 42nd minute when Sam Hutchinson laid the ball off to Adam Reach, who shot over the bar.

After Campbell's goal had made the game safe, Hull were able to see out the match comfortably, with the visitors ending the game without a shot on target.

Hull manager Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside: "It was an excellent performance. I thought we completely dominated the game and should have had more goals. Great credit to the players and it was a great atmosphere. We keep talking about driving the performance and believing in ourselves.

"There were a lot of good performances across the board. It was an entertaining game, we were strong and it shows how far we have come. It was important that Jarrod scored when he did, as if we went in at half time at 0-0 it would have been hard.

"It was great to have Fraizer Campbell come off the bench and score and we were good value. We need to focus on what got us to this position and it's all about the next game now."

Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Steve Agnew said: "It was a disappointing result and a bitterly disappointing performance. The third goal killed it off. We were never in the game and never showed any desire and Hull thoroughly deserved the win.

"It does tell us things about the players and they have to understand what we require. What we have found is they are a decent group of players.

"It's one of those afternoons whether I was sat here or Steve Bruce was sat here we would have been saying the same things."
