Bristol City 2-1 Bolton Wanderers: Kasey Palmer scores debut goal in Robins win

Kasey Palmer scored on his Bristol City debut as the in-form Robins came from behind to beat struggling Bolton Wanderers.

Chelsea loanee Palmer and fellow second-half substitute Matty Taylor both netted from close range in the space of three minutes as City extended their unbeaten run to nine Championship matches.

Bolton, who have endured a torrid start to 2019 off the pitch, had gone ahead against the run of play when Will Buckley headed Sammy Ameobi's cross past Niki Maenpaa.

The result capped a difficult seven days for relegation-threatened Wanderers, who have two winding-up petitions reportedly looming and a potential third to be filed by Forest Green Rovers.

Wanderers and chairman Ken Anderson have been embroiled in a public dispute with the League Two side, whose owner Dale Vince has threatened Bolton with legal action over the collapsed transfer of striker Christian Doidge.

There has also been talk of supporter protests against Anderson's ownership - although manager Phil Parkinson has reiterated a need to "focus on the football" with the club facing a run-in that is "as big as anything the club's had in its history".

They appeared to be putting their off-field troubles to one side when Buckley headed them in front against the run of play at Ashton Gate.

City had squandered numerous opportunities before the opener, with Andreas Weimann and Adam Webster striking the bar, but a triple substitution by head coach Lee Johnson altered the course of the match.

Taylor and Palmer, who joined on loan on Thursday, both scored within six minutes of coming on to send the Robins seventh in the Championship table.

Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol:

"I always believed. I believed we could be successful in the game. I thought the boys went into the game confident but not complacent.

"We played some excellent football, we probably quickened it up a bit in the second half and we controlled the game completely.

"There was some delightful football at times and on another day we could've scored three or four.

"The substitutes were excellent when they came on and we kept at."

Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Radio Manchester:

"The three substitutions (by Bristol City) changed the course of the game. Both the goals we could've done better with, we can't hide away from that.

"We just needed to roll our sleeves up and just show that bit of resilience to make sure we got something from the game because we scored a terrific goal.

"We got carried away with ourselves because we got the goal and we just lost our focus in a couple of areas.

"We have to be in a position to add to the squad. If we're not, we'll have to deal with it, but you look at teams around us adding players left, right and centre and we have to be able to do that too. Hopefully this week that can be resolved."
