FA Cup: Brentford 1-0 Oxford United highlights

Brentford battled past League One Oxford United at Griffin Park as Neal Maupay's late penalty took them into the FA Cup fourth round.

The Bees dominated for long periods but were frustrated by the visitors until John Mousinho brought down Maupay.

The Frenchman coolly slotted his 16th goal of the season into the corner, sending Simon Eastwood the wrong way.

Oxford's best chance saw James Henry's late dipping shot tipped over the crossbar by Luke Daniels.

The victory relieves some of the pressure that had been building on Brentford boss Thomas Frank after just two wins in his first 14 games in charge.

But Oxford, who are 22nd in League One, were more than a match for their out-of-form opponents.

Eastwood had already denied Josh Dasilva, Moses Odubajo and Yoann Barbet with first-half saves and the game looked to be fizzling out after the break until Mousinho's reckless challenge on Bees striker Maupay.

A serious-looking leg injury to Oxford's Shandon Baptiste resulted in eight minutes of added time but Karl Robinson's side could not find a leveller.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank:

"I would definitely prefer other players to be scoring from other positions as well, but the good signs are that both our wing backs had chances to get on the scoresheet today.

"We are a lot more settled now, have stabilised things and are capable of making some fantastic results."

Oxford manager Karl Robinson:

"This was Baptiste's first game back from a bad injury after nearly three months out and I saw the pain and adversity he went through and how he came back the hard way, running his socks off.

"There is a lot of movement in his knee and it doesn't look good but we'll pray that the scan brings us better news on Monday.

"I'm on the floor with him and was nearly in tears. He's in bits because we are people and being a good person is vital because results come and go just like praise and criticism."
