Dundee 0-0 Livingston: 'O'Dea's maybe been clever', says Holt about Hamilton red card

Highlights: Dundee 0-0 Livingston

Livingston manager Gary Holt says Dundee's Darren O'Dea has "maybe been clever" in getting Jack Hamilton sent off in the 0-0 draw at Dens Park.

The substitute was dismissed after 84 minutes by Bobby Madden after O'Dea, 31, fell clutching his face.

Despite the dismissal, Livingston held on to earn the point that kept them seventh in the Scottish Premiership.

"I spoke to Bobby afterwards and he said it was a push in the face and I'm not so sure it was," Holt said.

"I think he's pushed Darren off as he's fell on him. The older pro's gone down holding his face and that's maybe made Bobby's mind up."

While Holt says an appeal is "something we'll have to look at", Dundee counterpart Jim McIntyre was left complaining of a missed chance to draw level on points with St Mirren, who lost to St Johnstone.

Instead, while the Dark Blues stretch their unbeaten home run to four games and avoid a fourth straight defeat, they are now without a victory in five games and two points adrift at the bottom of the table.

Livingston happier with draw

Dundee were going to remain bottom of the table regardless of the outcome, but McIntyre had saved veteran striker Kenny Miller for this one against the club he started the season managing.

And the Livingston back-line looked uncharacteristically nervous against their former boss.

Nathan Ralph and Calvin Miller had also returned to Dundee's starting line-up and the pair were constantly and cleverly troubling the visitors down the left.

A powerful Ralph drive from 25 yards struck the top of the crossbar, but Livingston's own tenacity ensured they had their moments, too, and only a reaction save from Jack Hamilton kept the score level at the break after a wayward Keaghan Jacobs free-kick curled towards the far corner.

Whether or not they were affected by the loss of Jacobs, who had to be replaced with Craig Sibbald at half time, Livingston were increasingly pinned back. And Kenny Miller should have done better than shoot straight at goalkeeper Liam Kelly when clean through.

Livingston again worked their way into the game and a Scott Pittman shot forced a save from Hamilton and Steven Lawless fired against the top of the crossbar.

Holt's side had to dig deep amid some desperate Dundee pressure once reduced to 10 men.

However, they survived and, although they slip to seventh in the table, a 20-point gap between themselves and their hosts is a comfortable one for the side promoted in May.

Miller denied late birthday present - analysis

The focus was on Dundee's Kenny Miller to see if he could continue his fine goalscoring form against his former club. Having celebrated his 39th birthday on Sunday - and scored seven goals in his last seven appearances - it was set up for the former Scotland striker to add to his tally.

It failed to materialise and, although he was as sprightly as ever leading the Dundee attack, he squandered the one good chance that fell his way.

Dundee will feel it was a chance missed to narrow the gap on the teams above them after having the better of the second half.

Although the West Lothian outfit are still searching for their second win on the road, another impressive point was down to Livingston's solid defensive unit putting their bodies on the line once more.

Dundee 'to a man were excellent' - reaction

Dundee manager Jim McIntyre: "I think the one thing that was missing was the end product. Unfortunately for us, we didn't have that wee bit of magic in that final third.

"But we're showing a wee bit of consistency and it's something were going to have to do a lot more of away from home as well as here if we want to climb the table."

Livingston manager Gary Holt: "I'm delighted with the point considering we were down to 10 men but I don't think we were hanging on. I think we were coping well with their balls into the box.

"Dundee are fighting for their lives, scrapping for every ball and to a man were excellent, but we stood up to it and battled tremendously well."
