Queens Park Rangers 3-0 Ipswich Town: QPR earn third straight win

QPR celebrate
QPR moved up to eighth in the Championship, two points off the play-offs

Queens Park Rangers earned a third consecutive victory as they eased past the Championship's bottom club Ipswich Town at Loftus Road.

The hosts took the lead when Nahki Wells' shot was parried out to Pawel Wszolek, who tucked in from a tight angle on the rebound.

Joel Lynch nodded in the second from Luke Freeman's left-wing free-kick and Wells fired a well-struck third in to the far corner in the second half.

The result left Ipswich four points adrift of 23rd-placed Reading at the bottom of the table.

The defeat was Town's fifth in their past seven matches, and their ninth loss in their past 14 games.

Rangers could have won by more, but in-form Freeman saw an early free-kick tipped over the bar and - at 2-0 - Lynch glanced a header wide from a Freeman corner.

Steve McClaren's men moved within two points and two places of the play-off spots, while the Tractor Boys fell seven points adrift of safety.

Paul Lambert's visitors had their best spells when the game was goalless, but Jon Nolan's effort was saved by Joe Lumley and Ellis Harrison fired over from a Nolan through ball.

But their fifth loss from their past six away league games ended their mini revival, after picking up two points from their previous two matches at home.

QPR boss Steve McClaren told BBC Radio London:

"This was a difficult game for us, a tough game, mentally. We were expected to win at home but Paul Lambert sets Ipswich up to be difficult to beat.

"They had a lot more of the ball than we really wanted them to have, but we needed to be professional.

"I was delighted with the clean sheet and we could have had more goals. We scored the goals at the right time, giving us that cushion."

Ipswich manager Paul Lambert told BBC Radio Suffolk:

"Whether we deserved to win the game, I don't know, but performance-wise we were dominating the ball.

"The difference was at both ends - I don't think we did enough in the attacking third and we didn't defend as well as we should have done."
