Millwall 2-2 Hull City: Markus Henriksen goal earns Hull point on Nigel Adkins anniversary

Hull City boss Nigel Adkins
Nigel Adkins has won 14, drawn 16 and lost 22 of his 52 matches in charge of Hull City.

Skipper Markus Henriksen earned Hull City a point at fellow Championship strugglers Millwall on Nigel Adkins' one-year anniversary as Tigers' boss.

Kamil Grosicki put the visitors in front after six minutes but Lee Gregory levelled midway through the first half.

Millwall had several good chances after the break before Aiden O'Brien drilled in with his left foot.

But somewhat against the run of play, Henriksen nodded in after a corner to ensure the spoils were shared.

With Millwall starting the day just inside the relegation zone, and Hull sitting just above it, both teams knew the importance of victory.

Adkins' side drew first blood but Milllwall responded well, particularly just after half-time when Hull needed two last-ditch blocks to keep the Lions at bay, while Steve Morison missed when well placed.

They eventually broke through when O'Brien fired home but Henriksen - who also scored in last weekend's 3-2 win at QPR - headed home after Jordy de Wijs kept alive Jarred Bowen's corner.

It meant Millwall are now without a win in six league games, conceding 12 goals in the process, while Hull are unbeaten in four away matches.

Millwall manager Neil Harris said:

"I thought we dominated from start to finish. Shot count, set-pieces, crosses, aerial duels, foot races, tackles, shots on goal - we dominated everything.

"But the scoreline says 2-2 and that's the bottom line. We can't keep scoring goals at one end and conceding at the other, we have to get back to noughts and ones.

"We gave them two free headers in our penalty area. Individually that's not acceptable. Mentally they've got to be better."

Hull City boss Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We knew it was going to be a tough game, with balls coming in from all areas of the pitch.

"But I wanted us to go and play, I didn't want us just to defend.

"They did what Milllwall do, got themselves in the lead, but well done to the players because we stuck at it. A point away from home having been behind is a good one."
