Dagenham goalkeeper Elliot Justham played just two hours after his wife gave birth to help his side beat AFC Fylde and record a third win in four National League games.

The 28-year-old arrived late at the Chigwell Construction Stadium following the delivery of his daughter and conceded in the first minute as Andy Bond put Fylde ahead from a long ball forward.

"The gaffer always knew my wife was due today but we were hoping she'd either be early or late," Justham told BBC Radio London.

"I was there and it was obviously an emotional time for everyone involved.

"I came down the A13 from Basildon with a bit of a buzz.

"Mum and baby are OK and three points - what a day. It might sink in when I sit down later."

Conor Wilkinson drilled in a low effort to level the scores on 28 minutes with Dagenham's first shot on target, and Jack Munns converted Alex McQueen's cross from the right midway through the second half to complete the turnaround.

Justham made a string of saves as Fylde fell to their first away league defeat of the season - but Daggers boss Peter Taylor joked he may punish the keeper for failing to turn up to the ground on time.

"He kept texting me to tell me he was OK to play," said Taylor. "He made the agreement with his wife, even though she was going to have the baby.

"He got into the changing room a quarter of an hour late so I am going to have to fine him. There are no excuses - I am not going to get soft on that.

"But he played brilliantly and I couldn't be happier for him."

Victory moved Dagenham up to 21st in the table and the east London side are now only in the relegation zone on goal difference.
