We won the Euro super cup v Barca Withe big Ken McNaught/Tony Bartons claret n blue army. The first league ever in 1889 founded by our director. We split the north south divide in glory. Our recent hard times are over, we have wealth again. We gave you James Milner, Fabion Delph + Gareth SouthgateThe lion awoken you will ALL be in awe again. We DESERVE to be a super euro league founder.
The only time I watch the CL is when Spurs play- other years the only CL game I've bothered watching has been the final. No one outside the clubs involved would bother to watch it.I'm all for the likes of City & Chelsea to leave the PL & leave it to clubs that aren't the playthings of the obscenely wealthy.Football was far more interesting when QPR, Ipswich, et al challenged for the title
This whole thing, alongside the accusations of FFP breaches and UEFA letting it go sounds like a newspaper desperate to sell copies. If there is proof of these allegations why has none of it been shown? Any club that chooses to leave a league they are challenging for/winning every year to go into a new league playing their equals/betters every game is on the road to ruin
How would this make more money for the clubs? They would no longer be eligible for UEFA competitions so they would lose the TV and advertising revenue from that, they would also lose the TV money from their native league deals. There would be fewer games for them so even if they signed their own TV deals they would be worth less. Fewer games means fewer tickets sold over the season. Makes no sense
Spurs and gory hunters really dont go together. Not much glory to hunt in last 30 years. Man u in this league makes more sense as most of their fans have never been to manchester and probably cannot point to it on a map.
Liverpool of course - it is their year
What are you all talking about, get a life you sad B*****ds
Business showing how much it controls football now. Ridiculous idea that 'founding clubs' wouldn't face relegation. In that statement alone, it shows how much business doesn't care about the game. And five English teams, while only one German? No offence to England fans but that just stinks of money and business only. Once apon a time teams won things on merit. Notts Forest take a bow.
You almost hope this runs just to see fans boycott, leaving e.g. Barca v Man U playing to a worldwide audience in a completely empty stadium.2 other points:The group system won't give enough games - even if ESL clubs play their domestic cup some would be stuck with a 9-10 game season.Fixture repetition - Scotland already has this problem with their structure. You want El Clasico x 6?
@94: yes, it's the same capitalist reasoning that would replace workers with machines and let the governments worry about what to do with all the unemployed people with no honest income source. It's high time that Social and Environmental Responsibility became an integral part of company law (given that an economy is supposed to serve the people, not the other way round!).
Who cares?greed is not good, football will implode with a bit of luck and we can all enjoy the death throes of a very overated and silly game.then it can just be a fun game with no stupid punditry and all the TV nonsense.we are not all enamoured of this facile game.
@66: I'd like to think you're right and all true football supporters would boycott such a blatant attempt by the already super rich to indefinitely perpetuate their power. But those clubs would corner all the money and consequently all the best players and audience. FIFA would have to take a stand (since their rules prohibit government interference) but history isn't encouraging on that score.
A non-relegation league for the super-rich clubs and super-rich supporters. How on earth are they going to get regular away support?
But the million dollar question is will it actually happen in 3 years time?
