Partick Thistle slumped to a seventh successive defeat after missing a penalty at home to unbeaten Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Tom Walsh curled in the game's only goal on 71 minutes to end a sequence of seven draws for the Highlanders.

Blair Spittal had the chance to level soon after but his spot-kick was saved by Mark Ridgers.

Inverness move up to fourth in the Championship, while the Firhill side drop down to ninth spot.

What the managers said

Partick Thistle's Gary Caldwell: "I thought we were magnificent from the first minute to the last - the attitude, application. I've seen a lot of things I'm extremely happy and positive with.

"It's going to take time. This is a club that's been losing for a long time; you can see the fragility in the players. We have to build on this for next week.

"Top players miss penalties, it's a part of the game. He had the courage to step up, he was outstanding in the game - 90 minutes of hard work and real quality.

"I hurt as much as the fans. Stay with us, keep believing. I'm working towards long-term success and hopefully this performance will give us confidence for future."

Inverness Caledonian Thistle's John Robertson: "Thistle will feel they might have nicked a point, but perhaps now that we've stopped the run of draws, our team will get the credit it's due. It's gone under the radar because of the crazy sequence of draws and it will give us the boost to start climbing up the table.

"The key now is to kick on from here. It was frustrating fans and players - probably five of those games we could've won.

"We don't have the biggest squad but when you show that togetherness, that team spirit, that's what will get us further up in the league."
