Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says the club will adapt to the loss of star striker Ross Allen.

The Green Lions beat VCD Athletic 4-2 in their first Isthmian league Division One South game since 30-year-old Allen left to move to New Zealand.

"We're going to miss him but it shows that there is life after him," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"If you look at the squad all the talk was about no Ross Allen, and we scored four goals without him."

Craig Young scored twice in the victory at Footes Lane, with Robbie Legg and substitute Matt Loaring also on target as Guernsey moved up to 16th in the table.

"It's great - we just have to play a different way now," Vance said.

"But there's going to be difficult times when you know that you could do with a player of that quality."

Meanwhile, Allen has not ruled out returning to the Channel Island club in the future.

"It feels like I'm retiring this week - it's a really funny feeling because I've had all this nice stuff mentioned in the press and people saying thank you," he said.

"I've still hopefully got a good few years of playing left so it might be a case of going out there for a little bit and then coming back."
