Mansfield Town 3-0 Guiseley

Jimmy Spencer's hat-trick took League Two side Mansfield Town through to the third round of the FA Cup at the expense of non-league Guiseley.

Having failed failed to score in his previous 16 appearances for Mansfield, the majority of which had come from the bench, Spencer opened his account in style to secure the Stags' second-round win.

In an already one-sided game, goalkeeper Jonathan Maxted had already made a string of saves to keep the National League side at bay before the deadlock was broken on 31 minutes.

Spencer scored his first with a header from close range following Paul Anderson's run and cross down the right.

Guiseley, who were playing in the FA Cup second round for the first time, then had defender Darren Holden sent off on 40 minutes for a dangerous tackle on Spencer.

And they were down to nine men when Chris M'Boungou received a second booking for a foul on CJ Hamilton.

Spencer then cashed in, netting again on 52 minutes with a cool finish from Chris Hamilton's cutback.

He then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot on 65 minutes, sending Maxted the wrong way after Danny Lowe had hauled him down.

Mansfield manager Steve Evans told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"It could have been any number really. We played some super football. And I'm delighted for Jimmy Spencer. He's one of the most popular lads in the camp. He led the line really well.

"Full credit to the Guiseley players, who never stopped running, and to their support, who were still getting behind them late on.

"If you have a lack of discipline all over the pitch, it's going to be a problem. They went down to nine men and it could have been seven.

"But that same Guiseley team won with 10 men at Accrington and caused more problems than 11 men did. We knew they were going to be physical and we had to match that."

Guiseley manager Paul Cox told BBC Radio Leeds:

"We paid for our poor start. We never really got going and, when you go down to 10, then nine men, it's down to damage limitation.

"I found some of the decisions strange. Maybe sometimes referees should have a five-second think about things, but that had no bearing on our performance in the first 30 minutes.

"I thought the first one was more clumsy than anything and that Darren Holden slipped. And the second one was a second booking.

"To see so many people came and support us, it hurts me that we could not do more. But now it's about how quickly we put this on the backburner. This season is all about keeping us in the National League."
