Match ends, Morton 4, Brechin City 1.
Scott Tiffoney scored his first senior goal for Greenock Morton as they comfortably beat Brechin City.
The hosts took the lead early when Gary Oliver swept in from Ross Forbes' delivery.
Isaac Layne's impressive equaliser for Brechin stunned the Greenock men, but Tiffoney popped up just outside the box to loop the ball over Graeme Smith.
Gary Harkins added a third from the penalty spot before Forbes teed up Jai Quitongo for the fourth.
The Cappielow side's chances of being involved in the promotion race look at lot healthier now after winning their past two games and going level on points with fourth-placed Dunfermline Athletic.
The highlight was the special moment for 19-year-old Tiffoney - a product of Morton's youth system - despite it being an unorthodox finish.
Never afraid to take someone on and blessed with pace, Tiffoney looked lively both before and after his strike.
Oliver's second goal of the season - a low finish in off the post from six yards - meant Morton started on the front foot.
Smith saved sharply from Thomas O'Ware to prevent the hosts extending their lead before Layne thumped a rising shot into the top left corner to bring Brechin level.
The visitors failed to hold on until the break as Tiffoney's strike nudged Morton back in front.
Paul McLean gave home goalkeeper Derek Gaston something to think about from distance early in the second half, but the hosts got a crucial third from the spot through Harkins after Oliver drew a foul.
Forbes could claim his second assist of the afternoon when he put the ball on a plate for substitute Quitongo to roll home from six yards.
Despite conceding four goals, Smith played well and superbly denied O'Ware near the end.
Greenock Morton manager Jim Duffy: "Brechin scored from the only mistake we made in the game, really, but takes nothing away from Isaac Layne, it was an outstanding finish.
"Thankfully, we scored before half-time through Scott Tiffoney and we didn't need to force the game in the second half. It bounced up and he improvised and thankfully it went in the top corner.
"We probably could have scored another three or four if it hadn't been for the outstanding form of Graeme Smith.
"We've had a good spread of goals and it was good to have Michael Tidser and Jai Quitongo coming back today."
Brechin City manager Darren Dods: "We gave them a goal of a start but we got back in the game five minutes before half-time. We thought we would settle ourselves down and then gave away a poor goal.
"We had a go second half and pushed players forward.
"The tackle went in on Gary Oliver [for the penalty] and he stays on his feet and the next thing the referee is pointing to the spot. Where we were it didn't seem like there was much in it.
"Maybe a few heads went down in the last few minutes. It was good to get Andy Jackson back involved."
