Manager Dean Keates described Wrexham's 3-0 home defeat by Macclesfield Town in the National League as "embarrassing" and "undefendable".

Macclesfield completed a league double as second half goals from Danny Rowe, Mitch Hancox and Danny Whitaker secured victory.

Wrexham's miserable evening was compounded when substitute Jordan White missed a late penalty.

"It was nowhere near good enough for this football club," Keates said.

"There's no excuse for what's been served up.

Wrexham have lost their last two games since a 3-1 win over Forest Green on 26 November

"We had the little high against Forest Green, but since then it's been a rapid decline and nowhere near good enough."

Wrexham are 15th in the National League with the 3-1 victory over Forest Green, their only win in the eight games since Keates took over as permanent manager in October.

Keates, who succeeded Gary Mills, has warned Wrexham's players are playing for their futures.

"Performances like that make my job easier come the end of the season," Keates added.

"With performances like that they won't be part of this football club going forward.

"They know that so obviously it's up to them now.

"They've got the chance to go and impress over the next 20-odd games."
