Stam expects interest in Al-Habsi

Reading manager Jaap Stam believes he may struggle to ward off interest in goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi during the January transfer window.

Al-Habsi, 34, has been lauded for his recent performances during Reading's rise to fifth in the Championship.

"If he keeps on doing that, it's going to be very difficult to keep him within the squad," Stam told BBC Sport.

"Every team in the Premier League is looking for a good keeper who can make important saves for the team."

Former Bolton, Wigan and Oman international Al-Habsi is in his second season at the Madejski Stadium and has been praised by manager Stam for his ability to adapt to a new style of play.

"He's improved a lot this season in how we expected him to play and made some crucial saves to keep us in games," Stam told BBC Radio Berkshire.

"But, I always tell him he needs to make his own decisions. He's doing a great job and we don't have any complaints in what he's doing."
