Ben Clark: Gateshead defender retires at age of 33
Gateshead defender Ben Clark has retired from professional football with immediate effect.
The 33-year-old had played 280 games for the Tynesiders since his move from Hartlepool United in June 2010, and captained the team.
Clark, who began his career at Sunderland and played 14 games, went on to make a further 185 appearances in all competitions for Pools.
He will remain with Gateshead as a coach and community officer.
"I've known for a little while now," Clark said. "It was a case of training every day and not playing on a Saturday and I knew I didn't really want to do that."
