Peterborough United striker Lee Angol is set for a prolonged spell out after having surgery to put a pin in his leg.

The 21-year-old, who scored 11 goals in 38 appearances last term, has had an operation on a fracture.

"I was looking forward to seeing him this year. He's grown in height and got more physically strong," manager Grant McCann told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"I'm devastated for him. I visited him in hospital and he was devastated. But these things happen in football."

McCann added: "I'm sure it will not be the only injury he'll get in his career and I'm sure he'll come back stronger from it."

Angol moved to the ABAX Stadium from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee in 2015.
