My own team (Luton) were in administration when we had a replay at Anfield. The revenue from that tie helped keep the club alive in some very dark days. We lost the game 5-0 as the core of the squad had been lost in between the first game and the replay but even so, the revenue from these games means a huge amount to the smaller clubs.
One of the saddest things for me is the way a lot of fans seem to view winning and losing nowadays.'Not bothered about that cup''Happy if we get knocked out of that competition'There are not may trophies that can be won in a season.
Lots of issues with the FA Cup, the ties are not as exciting as Premier League or even Championship matches; the FA Cup is not as important as league success; a League Cup semi on a neutral ground would help the underdog! Its time to move on folks; like it or not, the Premier League has set a new world standard; Dyke and his old FA cronies are now a meaningless relic..
@285 this is the sort of sad ideas that are killing the game,.how about all ties with PL teams v lower league teams played at lower teams ground ,no replays the PL team has to win to go through a draw puts them out , or PL teams can opt out allowing their opponents a bye ,they can then fly off to the other side of the world to play meaningless friendlies for mega bucks and moan about tiredness
Keep the FA Cup replays and get rid of The League Cup'
If the top Premier League clubs want to play fewer games then how about they lobby to abolish the group stages of the Champions/Europa Leagues.
276 (a.k.a. Jurgen Klopp) - ironic you chose round 4 as when "pub sides in lower leagues" are "normally eliminated" from the cup; 1 of the biggest upsets in the history of English football = last year, round 4 (no replay/penalties required). No doubt you want all "pub sides" "eliminated" for good so you & your sad mates can have a nice cosy super league. 2 words for you. The 2nd word is "off".
English football is run by the EPL not the FA, ' tail does not wag dog' and the horse bolted some time ago. To those just catching up: one less game between the likes of Exeter dog and duck FC and Newcastle is a blessing. It's a free weekend. More will watch La Liga than any 'special' game involving ManC and Chelsea reserves.
I would bring back second (and third ect) replays, have them in quicker sucession than now, there have been some epic ties over the years. In fact go back to what made the FA cup special.
All the changes proposed by the FA are for one thing to help the premier teams , doing away with replays will take the soul out of the fa cup, the rubbish aboiut having too many games , championship lge1 &2 teams play 8 more league games and start in the earlier rounds of the cups , as for playing them midweek ,the BBC would have to re schedule their programmes to fit Man Utds games in
The greed of the premiership clubs has no limits. Fans of most clubs don't care whether the elite of London & Manchester are winning in Europe as their success has no relevance to the domestic game or the England team. Cup replays must be maintained for the good of the majority of clubs. If the Premiership don't like it, tough! And the best replay ever was Tranmere 4 Southampton 3 in 2001.
276 Soccer inane you are either a wind up merchant or a plastic. Football is the working mans theatre or was people like me support my lower league team because my dad did & his dad before him. As Baggio says there is alot wrong with football today. Liverpool fans made a stand about elitist ticket prices the other week. You represent everything wrong with football today you must be Sepp Blatter?
