Paul Clement: Derby County struggling with confidence

Derby County head coach Paul Clement believes his side are struggling with a lack of confidence as their winless league run stretched to six matches.

The Rams were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Preston on Tuesday.

"Confidence is not particularly high. Things aren't clicking in the attacking third," Clement told BBC Radio Derby.

"I am pleased that after conceding some many goals over the last few games, we were able to not to concede. Now we have to start scoring some goals."

Derby were top of the Championship on Boxing Day but failed to register a league win in January and were knocked out of the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage by Manchester United.

When quizzed about whether his side were too negative and comfortable playing sideways passes against North End, Clement said: "I think the crowd made their thoughts very clear on that.

"My belief is that if there is not a positive forward ball to play, then you regain possession.

"You look for another option to play it forward, rather then throwing a needless ball forward which ends up being a 50-50. That's not our style."
