Coventry City 1-1 Oldham Athletic

Tony Mowbray
Tributes were made before the game to former Coventry chairman and manager Jimmy Hill.

Coventry missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Burton Albion as they were held by struggling Oldham.

After a poor first half in which Coventry lost Ben Turner following an awkward fall, Aaron Martin headed in a Joe Cole corner to give them the lead.

But Danny Philliskirk equalised with a last-minute near-post header.

There was a minute's applause before kick-off in tribute to former Coventry City chairman and manager Jimmy Hill, who died on Saturday at the age of 87.

The former Brentford and Fulham forward was appointed Coventry manager in November 1961 and led the Sky Blues to the Division Three and Division Two titles.

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"It was strange game, a bit of a roller-coaster. We had some opportunities early in the game and didn't take them.

"The turning point looked like Ben Turner's injury. Psychologically it was hard for the team, and we missed what he brings to the game.

"The manner that we dropped the points with the last kick of the game - it's difficult to take on such a day like this.

"There's a huge picture of Jimmy Hill in our dressing room. His time at this football club: he was a visionary in an era when football needed pushing on."

Oldham Athletic manager David Dunn told BBC Radio Manchester:

"It was certainly a rollercoaster, that's for sure.

"That's a good Coventry side full of confidence, so we knew what our game plan was to stop them. Defensively our organisation was very good.

"In possession, in the first half we've got to be lot better. I'm sick of saying that we only start playing when we go 1-0 down. It must be a mental or a confidence thing.

I thought the goal was coming for a while. I thought we were controlling the game and I did think we were going to nick one."
