Torquay United: Ashley Yeoman released after seven years
Torquay United have released striker Ashley Yeoman from his contract.
The 23-year-old, who signed a six-month deal in the summer, has been unable to establish a regular first-team place since making his debut as a promising 16-year-old seven years ago.
"He's given this club everything he's got for quite a few years now," manager Kevin Nicholson told BBC Radio Devon.
"Unfortunately it's never really taken off for him to become a regular starter."
Yeoman has played 59 games, 46 of them as a substitute, for the Gulls and scored seven times.
He had spells away from Plainmoor on loan, the last at Truro City earlier this season.
"He needs to go away, play some regular football and score some goals, at whatever level that might be, and try and work his way back up again," Nicholson said.
"He needs to move on as he's plateaued a bit over the last few years.
"He's still got a chance, he's still a young man, he's still got a lot of years playing ahead of him, and everybody wants a goalscorer, so he just needs to go out there and find that groove again and I wish him well."
