Southend United club legend Kevin Maher has been appointed as the League One club's new Under-21 boss.
The 39-year-old made 455 career appearances for the Shrimpers and captained them to successive promotions from League Two to the Championship between 2004 and 2006.
He has recently been working with the Southend Under-18s.
Maher replaced Dave Robertson, who left to take up the manager's position at League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers.
"Kevin is the ideal candidate and we will be working very closely to ensure his smooth integration into the role," manager Phil Brown told the club website.
"We are delighted he has accepted the position, apart from Kevin's obvious qualities he is also truly committed to the Blues."
