Wigan Athletic 5-0 Colchester United

Will Grigg
Northern Ireland international Grigg has scored five goals this season

Wigan Athletic scored four goals in the opening 33 minutes on their way to a thumping win over Colchester United.

Donervon Daniels opened the scoring, slotting in from close range after good work by Yanic Wildschut and Max Power's deflected 25-yard shot made it 2-0.

Daniels struck a third and a Will Grigg double sealed the victory.

Grigg smashed home his first and lobbed his second late on as the Latics rounded off an impressive display to move up to eighth place in League One.

Wigan boss Gary Caldwell told BBC Radio Manchester:

Caldwell on Wigan v Colchester

"We were excellent from the first minute. We had a real threat, a real attacking intent to our play and scored 3 goals in fourteen minutes.

"To win 5-0 at home and still have room for improvement can only be a good thing.

"I couldn't be happier in terms of how we played, the energy levels, the commitment - we were devastating for spells in the game."
