Crewe Alexandra have announced changes to their backroom team as part of the club's long-term strategy in the recruitment and development of young players over all age groups.

Manager Steve Davis has appointed former Alex player James Collins as his first-team coach.

Neil Baker, Davis's assistant manager throughout his near four years in charge, is now head of recruitment.

He will coordinate the club's scouting network and liaison with other clubs.

Crewe not the best starters
Crewe, who stayed up on the final day last season, lie 20th in League One, having picked up just two points from their first four matches - drawing both their first two home games.

Alex Morris will succeed Collins as manager of the under-21 development squad following his successful work with last season's under-18 squad.

Former Crewe captain Kenny Lunt will now be in charge of charge of the youth team after assisting Morris last season.

The club's former midfield player Lee Bell, who helped the Alex win promotion to League One in 2012, has joined the club on a full-time basis to fulfil a coaching role alongside Lunt as part of the Elite Player Performance Plan.
