Match ends, Motherwell 1, Kilmarnock 0.
Louis Moult's penalty was enough to give Motherwell their first win since the opening day of the season at home to Kilmarnock.
Moult rolled the ball into the bottom left-hand corner after being fouled in the box by Mark O'Hara.
Lionel Ainsworth and teenager Dom Thomas were on inspired form for the hosts but could not conjure up a second.
Tope Obadeyi missed Kilmarnock's best chance for an equaliser late on.
While Ian Baraclough's men leapfrog Dundee United and St Johnstone in the table, Kilmarnock are left rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership on only two points.
Worryingly for manager Gary Locke, his side were lacklustre throughout and rarely threatened.
Motherwell began the brighter with Scott McDonald firing over the bar, before 19-year-old Thomas had a near post shot tipped over by Jamie MacDonald.
Home goalkeeper Connor Ripley then had to tip over a snapshot from Josh Magennis at the other end.
Overall it was the home side who started the brighter and took the lead from the penalty spot.
Striker Moult nipped in to steal the ball from O'Hara in the penalty area, but the defender swiped at the ball, caught Moult, and left referee Steven McLean with no choice but to point to the spot.
Moult steadied himself to fire home with accuracy into the corner of the net, just beyond the despairing dive of MacDonald.
He would have the ball in the back of the net again, but it was ruled out for offside. It looked like a tight decision.
Jamie Hamill sclaffed a shot over the bar for Kilmarnock just before half-time, which rather summed up their afternoon.
Locke introduced Obadeyi in the second half, which provided an initial spark. But that quickly waned.
He did come close towards the latter stages, but his close-range effort soared over the bar. A header from Obadeyi deep in injury time sailed high over the bar.
Kris Boyd tried a late ambitious chip, but it was off target - much like the overall Kilmarnock day.
