Southend captain John White has had his contract extended along with Luke Prosser and David Worrall.

The newly-promoted League One outfit exercised options in all three players' contracts to have them remain at the club for a further year.

Kane Farrell, Josh Banton, Ellis Brown and Conor Clifford have been released, having been transfer-listed in January.

Defender Mads Ibenfeldt, goalkeeper Paul Smith and striker Lee Barnard have also been allowed to leave.

Smith, 35, made his only appearance for the Shrimpers in their League Cup first-round defeat by Walsall in August, while Ibenfeldt featured three times last season.

Barnard, who moved on loan to Stevenage in November 2014, has not played a match since December.
