Millwall 1-4 Norwich City

Bradley Johnson and Jonny Howson
Jonny Howson's two goals took his total for the season to six

Jonny Howson scored two in an emphatic Norwich City win that increased the pressure on Millwall boss Ian Holloway.

The Lions were overrun as they fell to a fourth straight Championship defeat, and are eight points adrift of safety.

Howson curled in a superb opener before Gary Hooper's penalty made it two for Norwich, who are a point outside the automatic promotion places.

Wes Hoolahan and Howson added second-half goals before Lee Gregory scored a late penalty for Millwall.

Alex Neil's side could have won by a greater margin, with Graham Dorrans hitting the post and Cameron Jerome seeing a shot cleared just in front of the line.

Holloway acknowledged after Tuesday's 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough that his side's poor form meant that he was "not popular" with Millwall's fans.

Club chairman John Berylson backed his manager in the match programme, but the home supporters at The Den were left disgruntled by a dreadful display, and booed off their side at the end.

Canaries maul Lions
Norwich have scored 10 goals in their two league matches against Millwall this season, having won 6-1 at Carrow Road on Boxing Day

Norwich, whose six-match winning run ended with a surprise defeat at home to Wigan on Wednesday, were neat in their passing play, with Howson having a shot blocked before he opened the scoring.

The former Leeds midfielder broke forward with a solo run before bending a shot beyond Millwall goalkeeper David Forde.

Neil's side extended their lead from the spot, with Jerome brought down by Alan Dunne after Forde had tipped away a Dorrans shot, and Hooper converting the penalty for his 10th goal of the season.

Shaun Williams headed wide a chance for Millwall, who were then sloppy in defence as Hoolahan was left free to slot a shot across the keeper into the far corner.

Howson tapped in Jerome's cut-back from 10 yards amid minimal resistance, prompting many of the home fans to head for the exits.

They missed a Millwall consolation goal, scored from the penalty spot by substitute Lee Gregory after Diego Fabbrini had been brought down by Gary O'Neil.

Millwall manager Ian Holloway: "We were competing with Norwich on almost the same level.

"But they scored and unfortunately the confidence in the group and the pessimism that kicks in after we concede a goal is killing us.

"The difference is the finishing and a bit of quality."

Norwich manager Alex Neil: "It was a very soft penalty - we pride ourselves on keeping clean sheets and our record has been good in terms of that.

"When the dust settles on this season, we want to be in one of the top two spots.

"I wouldn't say it would be a failure to not reach it but I'll be disappointed as there is no reason we can't continue this run."
