Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus will be out until January after tearing ligaments in his right ankle during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Paderborn.
The 25-year-old missed Germany's World Cup win with an ankle problem and then, after starting the season, missed seven Dortmund games with a similar injury.
Reus tweeted: "I'll be back again! Thanks for all your lovely messages wishing me to get better soon."
Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said: "How much bad luck can you have?"
Last season's runners-up in the German Bundesliga are third from bottom with three wins from 12 league games.
