The club confirmedexternal-link Valdes's recovery will now be supervised by United's medical staff.

Valdes is a free agent after turning down the offer of a new contract at the Camp Nou in the summer.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal previously worked with Valdes at Barcelona in 2002-03, although he only became the Catalan club's first-choice goalkeeper under Van Gaal's successor Radomir Antic.
