Cardiff City's new signing Danny Gabbidon has been called up to the Wales squad for the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The 35-year-old defender replaces Wolves' Sam Ricketts, 32, who suffered an injury in training on Tuesday.

Gabbidon agreed a one-year deal at the Bluebirds on Monday.

Ricketts is the fourth player to pull out of the squad following full-back Adam Matthews, winger Hal Robson-Kanu and defender James Collins.

Gabbidon has not played a competitive match since Wales' 2-0 defeat by the Netherlands in June.

Prior to signing for his second spell at Cardiff, Gabbidon had been training with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team following his release by Crystal Palace.

The centre-back made 219 appearances for the Bluebirds in his first spell at the club before being sold to the West Ham in July 2005.

Wales start their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign away at Andorra on 9 September after Uefa gave the go-ahead to the match being played on the 3G pitch at the new 3,300-capacity national stadium in the capital Andorra le Vella.

This match is followed by home ties against Bosnia-Hercegovina and Cyprus on 10 and 13 October before Chris Coleman's side travel to Group B favourites Belgium on 16 November.
