Birmingham's on-loan Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard was sent off as Wigan were denied a third straight win under new manager Uwe Rosler.

Wigan forward Callum McManaman was denied by Darren Randolph in the game's best chance just before half-time.

Lingard was shown a straight red card for a lunge on Jordi Gomez soon after the hour mark at the DW Stadium.

But Wigan could not find a way through as Birmingham held on to extend their unbeaten run to eight games.

Post Match: Wigan manager Rosler

The Latics are now five points off the Championship play-off places following this goalless draw.

They started slowly and Birmingham's Nikola Zigic had a header saved by Ali Al-Habsi before Chris Burke missed the target.

McManaman then went close when he surged through and had a shot tipped around the post by Randolph.

Lingard was sent off with around half an hour left but James McArthur prodded wide from Jean Beausejour's cross as the Latics had to settle for a point.

Wigan manager Uwe Rosler:

"I was certainly not disappointed with a point. Sometimes you have to accept that you don't have enough on the day to win.

"Birmingham made it very difficult for us. At 11 against 11 we would have found it very difficult to get anything."

Birmingham manager Lee Clark:

"There was only one winner in the first half. Wigan never gave us any issues at all.

"Even when we went down to 10 men, our goalkeeper's not had to make many saves. With 11 against 11, we were certainly the dominant team."
