Match ends, Bury 0, Cambridge United 0.
Conference Premier leaders Cambridge United earned a first-round replay against League Two strugglers Bury.
Kwesi Appiah should have put the visitors in front in the first minute, but was halted by keeper Brian Jensen, before Danny Mayor squandered a chance at the other end with the goal gaping.
Appiah, on loan from Crystal Palace, continued to cause Bury problems and saw his second-half effort blocked.
U's keeper Chris Maxwell saved from Tommy Miller as it ended goalless.
The initial tie was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch and now the two sides will face each other again in a replay at the Abbey Stadium on 3 December to decide who hosts Sheffield United in the second round.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Bury manager Ronnie Jepson told BBC Radio Manchester:
"The performance was poor and we were lucky to get a 0-0.
"We never turned up and that was the most disappointing aspect. I don't mind winning, losing or drawing, as long as you put a good performance in with character and a good work ethic.
"We didn't have enough leaders. No one was willing to take the game by the scruff of the neck and drag people on. We got dictated to all over the park.
"We're lucky to have another bite at the cherry."
Cambridge United manager Richard Money told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire:
"I couldn't be more proud of them really. If ever a football team deserved to win a game, that was it tonight.
"We respect them and we've still got it all to do. All we've done is earn ourselves a replay. I thought we deserved to win.
"We knew we needed to be a bit tough, a bit more resolute. But I was really pleased with how we were able to be calm and play.
"The pitch was a bit icy, making it difficult to finish on."
