Braintree Town 3-1 Alfreton Town

Braintree climbed into the top five in the Conference Premier with a convincing home victory over Alfreton.

With all the goals coming in the second half, it was Charlie Strutton's well-struck volley that gave the hosts the advantage.

Sean Marks' 84th-minute header and Daniel Sparkes' tap in three minutes later wrapped up the points for high-flying Braintree.

Bradley Wood netted late consolation for the visitors.

Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire told BBC Essex:

"We've had to grind it out, they are very tough side to play against. Very direct, big, strong and I thought we stood up well to it.

"We knew that later on in the game it would open up and we would get a few chances, Charlie [Strutton] took his goal well and then we was never in danger.

"I'm absolutely delighted, the boys deserve a lot of credit, I'm so proud of them.

"The week we've had is absolutely fantastic."
