Highlights - Forfar 0-1 Rangers

Rangers made it six wins out of six in Scottish League One by edging out Forfar Athletic in a scrappy game at Station Park.

Andy Little tucked home the visitors' opener towards the end of a first half light on scoring opportunities.

Dale Hilson twice threatened a leveller for the Loons after the break.

Darren Dods had a shot blocked on the Rangers goal-line and Gavin Malin also came close to an equaliser with a late strike that flashed over.

Ally McCoist's side regain their five-point advantage at the top of the division with their eighth successive win in all competitions.

However, that sequence was preceded by a Scottish League Cup defeat at Forfar in July and Dick Campbell's side were looking for a repeat of that win to move up to mid-table.

Gavin Swankie was Forfar's hero that day with two goals and the forward set up an early chance for Omar Kader, who was leaning back as he fired wide.

Rangers were struggling to find any fluency and were restricted to half-chances from corners, Lee McCulloch having a shot blocked in one such attack.

And it was from a Forfar mistake that Rangers carved the winner as Dods' clearance was pounced upon by David Templeton.

Little was found in space inside the box and the forward kept his cool to finish past Darren Hill as Forfar defender Marvin Andrews closed in.

Hilson almost levelled just after the break with a powerful dipping effort that just crept over Cammy Bell's crossbar.

And the winger caused Rangers concern again when he got a foot to a long ball, with Bell and his defenders relieved to see the attempted lob bounce wide.

Similar to the first half, Rangers found space hard to come by in and around the Forfar box and Jon Daly and Nicky Law were unable to make the most of rare openings.

Dods had an opportunity to atone for his earlier error when Andrews headed down a corner and a combination of Lee Wallace and Templeton prevented the drilled shot finding the net.

And though Malin's attempt in the closing stages had power, it was just too high.
