Stenhousemuir remain just three points behind League One leaders Rangers after securing a hard-fought win at Forfar.
Sean Higgins had the Warriors in front before Darren Smith doubled their advantage, with striker John Gemmell having a hand in both goals.
Forfar rallied after the break and were awarded a penalty after Sean Dickson brought down James Dale.
Iain Campbell converted to offer the hosts a glimmer of hope, but Martyn Corrigan's men held out for victory.
The struggling hosts are still looking for their first win of the season.
