Egypt lose to Chile in opening Under-20 group match

Egypt began their Under 20 World Cup campaign in Turkey with a 2-1 defeat to ten-man Chile in Group E.

Mahmoud Kahraba put Egypt ahead after ten minutes following some good work from Hassan Ahmed.

Chile fought back with an equaliser 25 minutes later through Nicolas Castillo's close-range shot.

Substitute Christian Bravo sealed the win for Chile with a goal 14 minutes from time.

Chile held on for the victory despite having a man sent off with ten minutes remaining. Cristian Cuevas was shown the red card for a dangerous tackle on Saleh Gomaa.

The South Americans take an early lead in the group which also includes Iraq and England.

Egypt's next match will be on Wednesday 26 June against Iraq, also in Antalya.

Africa's three other representatives at the Under-20 World Cup are Nigeria, Mali and Ghana.

All four African teams are still looking for their first victories of the tournament.
