Monaco are close to completing a reported £50m deal for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, according to sporting director Vadim Vasilyev.

The Colombian, 27, has scored 32 goals this season and has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City.

Vasilyev says the Ligue 2 champions are on the verge of pushing a deal through.

"Things are progressing well, but it's not finalised yet, there are still some details to sort out," he told French radio station RMC.

"We really want to complete the transfer of this great player. He is among the best players in the world; we will be very happy when he signs. He really believes in the future of Monaco."

Monaco have embarked on an ambitious spending spree after winning the second division under former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri.

They have already bought Porto midfielders Joao Moutinho, 26, and James Rodriguez, 21, in a £60m double deal and signed defender Ricardo Carvalho, 35, on a free transfer from Real Madrid.

Vasilyev has also dismissed reports that his club are interested in Manchester City's Carlos Tevez and added: "Many newspapers talk about it but this issue has never been discussed."
