Russ Penn: Cheltenham Town midfielder agrees new deal
Cheltenham Town midfielder Russ Penn has been confirmed as club captain after agreeing a new two-year contract.
The 27-year-old has worn the armband on matchdays since Alan Bennett moved to AFC Wimbledon in February.
Former Scunthorpe trainee Penn has made 86 league appearances for Cheltenham since joining from Burton in 2011.
"The last two years have been great, so it was a no-brainer come the end of the season [to sign a new deal]," he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
Cheltenham have reached the play-offs for the last two season, losing at the semi-final stage to Northampton this term.
However, Penn believes the club can put that behind them and move forward optimistically.
"It's disappointing for the last two years we haven't quite got over that final hurdle, but it wasn't to be," he said.
"Overall it's been two really good years for the club - it's good to put Cheltenham on the map.
"That's what I was brought here to do, and hopefully we can kick on now and have a real good push."
